Comics question

So I started reading the old comics, but I don't think they're the right ones. The ones I'm reading are the IDW Transformers Generations. For one second, I thought I was reading the 80's comics...silly me lol :banghead: . What's the difference between the 80's G1 comics, re-generation and IDW generations? Do they place at the same time? At one point we see Bumblebee teaching Tracks, Hoist, Grapple and Smockescreen and next we see Perceptor as leader, have I missed anything? Please no spoilers

Thanks

The various Transformers comics can be confusing for sure.

IDW had a short-lived reprint series called "Transformers Generations" that reprinted issues of the 1980's Marvel Transformers series, and in no particular order. That's where your confusion comes from. So yes, you are reading stories from the 80's.

I would highly recommend that as a new reader you track down stories in a trade paperback form.
If you want to start with the old Marvel stories look for "Transformers Classics volume 1"

Oh, and "Regeneration One" is a continuation of the Marvel continuity but published by IDW. Marvel's series ended at issue 80, so IDW did an issue #80.5 for free comic book day, followed by issues 81-100 as well as an issue #0.

Confused yet? Lol. Hope I helped.

For what it's worth I started reading the IDW Transformers collection. Figured that's the current consistent story. They are like 8 big hard cover volumes. And then there is a Phase 2.

Here's a link to the TFwiki article on IDW's Generations reprint series of the 80's Marvel comic:

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers:_Generations

They did 12 issues, technically they are in chronological order, but they do skip a lot of the Marvel issues in between. I think issues that had Circuit Breaker in them were off the table because Marvel still had the rights for her and IDW couldn't have her in there.

Exactly. If you wanna start with the IDW continuity that's the best way to go about it.

Can you take a photo of the issues you've got to help us figure out where you're at?

Marvel G1 Comics and Marvel UK, do they share the same timeline

Yes. You can read the entire u.s. run without reading the u.K. one, but the u.K one reprinted the u.s. stories every so often, so their story arcs were made so when they concluded the next u.s. reprint story would make sense. (Mostly)
