What's good everyone? Saw Ikea dropped the price of their popular glass door cabinets, the "Detolf". Was $79.99, they've gone down to $59.99. Too bad I stocked up in the winter, not sure if I need anymore. :doh:

Interesting. Looks like they are no longer including the lighting kit. And now there is a white option. I find the light they include is inadequate anyways. Great deal! Thanks for the heads up.

I'm glad they brought the white one back. That was the only one I ever cared for.

Then again, I have 2 extra sets of each of the white bases and beech bases due to me making my own custom bases (see sig).

Yay. Will have to hit up Ikea in the next few weeks.

If the price were on par with Detolf, I'd buy it because it's more aesthetically pleasing. But it's more than 3x the price now and it has one less shelf. :(

It is much more substantial. They are really nice looking with that industrial look. Would have looked great in my loft. They have large shelves than the Detolf, though one less.

between the legs sticking out at the bottom so you can't put them together, and the big corners that cover a lot of the view, i'll stick with the detolfs,

I just sold 2 of mine for $90. I had owned them for atleast 10 years. A $30 rental fee for 10 years doesn't seem to bad if I go based off the new price lol.

The feet are literally held on with one regular #8 x 1 1/2 wood screw. You could try and get some generic ones from home depot. Only reason I know this is cause I'm trying to modify my detolf feet to include a 1/2 inch riser.

I wouldn't attempt it without securing both to the wall. Imagine that falling on someone, it'd slice them up. Heavy thunder could knock something like that over.

That makes me wonder though if you could lay one horizontally on a waist high table, then stack another 1 or 2 on top of that. You'd end up with horizontal displays with all your figures on long glass shelves and you flip the door down to access them. Of course you'd remove the smaller shelves from inside as they're now useless.

I would not do this. The glass is bendy but it will break at some point and without warning. At least prop up the middle!

Ya, you definitely want to add some support to the glass. That bending doesn't look good at all (structurally and aethestically).

That's not my setup dudes, just a random example from google. I see now the bendy part, yup that would definitely need some support in the middle. When I get some detolfs I will just leave them upright, but I may add a base to elevate them a foot from the ground making it easier to look at the items on the bottom shelf.

I've been thinking of installing some type of risers too. This thread has lots of options, many are custom. I don't know why IKEA doesn't make one.

Picked up two Detolfs today plus a 6' wall mount shelf. Just need to reorganize my den/office then build them. My MPs will finally have a proper home.

the only ones with the Beech effect are the ones in Super Megs' basement. Because I built them. I effected them. I am Beech.

I was going to pick some up today but before I do I would like to know if the shelves are adjustable as it would appear I'm going to need a LOT of these things and am working out the measurements now. If I can't adjust the shelf height then I'm not sure they are going to work out after all. Please help with any info you may have. Thanks :)
