TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

As some of you may know, a TFcon 2013 charity custom "Group A" has already formed, with its members committing to updating one of the most famous of the G1 combiners - Predaking.

Sadly, that kind of a project only has room for five people by its very nature. So several of us who contributed to last year's Beast Wars project but didn't get a chance to get in on this year's decided to band together and come up with another theme.... something that would be fit to go up against a legion of Predacons.

And so, it was hit upon to do a set grouping themed around the natural predator of all Cybertronian beastformers... the Beast Machines Vehicons! And like the Beast Wars set last year, we too are definitely open to others joining in on contributing to this grouping.

RULES: We're not putting a size or mold stipulation on this set, really - general concept is to do Cybertronian-styled Vehicons where possible. So with that in mind, basically anything goes!

CHARACTERS: The aim for the set is to update all of the show Vehicons, at the very least. Beyond that, mind, if people want to get in on the theme there's definitely room to do some of the toy characters, like Mirage/Scavenger/Blastcharge/etc. Heck - if someone wants to take a shot at making Mol, and has figured out how to not make him suck, we're all ears!

CHARACTERS CLAIMED/NEEDED:
Tankor - General Tekno
Strika - Stapler
Obsidian - Mumps
Jetstorm - Malwave
Thrust - Rodimus Prime1

SECONDARY CAST OPTIONS (Still taking people interested!)
Blastcharge
Mirage
Mechatron
Scavenger
Spy Streak - Pyjama Prime

All figures will have to be ready in time for TFcon, so if you're not going to be attending, you're still welcome to participate, but arrangements will have to be made to get the toy there. The current plan is to put these into the charity auction itself, rather than eBaying the set like in previous years.

If you're interested in participating, shoot me a PM or post in the thread with what character you'd like to do/what mold idea you have.

EDIT: 2/2/2013 - Since we have a full slate doing the main cast, I've listed who the secondary cast options are, for anyone interested in still getting in on this!

Hunting instincts are useless against numbers and firepower.

Besides, the Predacons lack one thing the Maximals had in BM - a religious fanatic being manipulated by a rogue Vehicon into even greater fanaticism.

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

Well I was up to 2:00 last night working on Vehicon Thrust for the Charity Event.

Seeing how we are updating them to FOC era I figured I would change Gen Thrust a little, to a kind of a trike hybrid.

Sideswipe stance is so different and as cool looking as Vehicon Thrusts first was , I had thought about using Arcee but a little to Easy.

Anyway heres a sneek peek of what I done up to now. Let me know what you think ?

Cheers

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

Wow. This is definitely REALLY original. Would never have thought of this in 1000 years!

I kinda want to see how this turns out, conceptually. I imagine he might be a little large, but if Beast Machines as a toyline is known for anything other than inaccurate toys it's completely all over the place scale.

Will check with the others but I want to see how this turns out - really brilliant concept. :) A cool reimagining indeed.

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

That is just brilliant! Such a great concept should never be held back by scale, IMO. Go for it! :D

That is going to look really slick, Mal. With the cyberverse Soundwave coming out you could even make some jet drones for him. :D

but I do love my luck; turns out the head from the McDonald's JS fits this mold size-wise perfectly!

Looks Great Malwave, even though it is a earth based drone it still screams cybertronian. You got a head and It's even color accurate nice.
Nice photo shop rederings, I've been hand sketching mine, might post a few sketches for a bit of fun.

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

Quite nice concept indeed.

I'll probably make my final decisions moldwise once we see what BH Shockwave looks like this coming weekend; my biggest obstacle re: Tankor concepts has been my own desire to do him "right" by vehicle, proportions and size.

I will say though that I do also have a secret idea for the set as well, but I'm not committing to it in case I don't get a chance to get it done as it's more of a bonus in the concept stages at present.

I'd consider drones completely optional; no worries. Though would the DOTM or ROTF Sideswipe molds work with similar mods to your HA design?

hey guys; so....I went a little overboard the night I posted those pics....:p let's just say I'll have more time for a second entry now. And for FYI, the head is from the McDonald's toy. (finally put that thing to use!)

(yes, the head stores in vehicle mode.)

I do have an opinion to ask for tho; should I glue his legs together for permanent hover mode, or leave the legs for the option of him being able to stand?

SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS that is amazing.

I say give him the option of a walk mode, if only to homage the toy.

alright :) but as I said, I MIGHT have time to add a second figure to the mix. You happen to have a junker Uni 2.0 Onslaught on you bro?

Stapler 02-05-2013 07:55 PM

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

Mal, my man, that works perfectly! I'm with Techno about leaving the option for a legged mode.

No worries about doing drones, Rodimus. I was teasing Mal. ;)

Everything is looking amazing so far! I just ordered some parts today, I can't do much until those arrive.

So far, Obsidian will homage the show model and the toy in ways. Can't say how yet.

Yes I would agree, that way it can be an updated version, just like HASBRO does it . Funny you should ask that question I was thinking the same about mine

Malwave, done :clapping: wow man that looks great. http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.cybertron.ca/boards/images/icons/icon14.gif

At that rate you should be able to an all out attack wave of drones, lets say 50 drones on little clear stands :D:D

I've been taking cues from Animated Strika for my custom. Big, beefy canons, actual hands, maybe the colours, too. She's gonna end up with 8 wheels instead of her usual 6, though.

I was joking a little but honestly I had thought about adding a couple of drones, just don't know if I'm going to have time to finish two more.

Yeah I have a few of those, and I already looked at using them. Unfortunatley they transform a little different/opposite, so it might take a bit more work than with the Voyager size.

Man, all this excitement re: the project is really making me anticipating the Toyfair reveals.

I'm at the point where if they don't reveal anything I like, I'm going to go with my more expensive option for a base figure. Which means going through my storage bins to see what I can quickly flip/unload to cover the cost.

(My likely mold choice for Tankor, at this stage, is a soon-to-be-released third party toy...)

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

I have been working away on Thrust for the TFCON'13 charity project an I figured I would post some update shots.

I spent a bit of time with sketches and moke-ups using the original roof and windshield but I wasn't a 100% convinced on the direction I was going and wasn't getting much done.

Luck would change when on one of my outings to Value Village looking for TF's I came across this toy and it just screamed "USE ME", So I picked it up.

I have since proceeded to hack it up and convert it for my use, this is What I've got so far, much happier with this and it even has more of a Thrust look now.

So here it is so far, in Vehicle mode. Robot images will be after the head is done as I still have to scratch build it and still have some minor work left on the car.

Here a concept color image photoshoped from Sideswipe, this is what I'm hoping it will look like in robot, well not exaclty but close.

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

Colour me blown away! Every time you post an update I find myself more and more impressed. I still can't believe that movie Sideswipe of all things could make a convinceing Thrust.

Me? I've still yet to start in ernest. Got hit with a nasty bug. In between fevers I did manage to settle on the guns I'm gonna use for Strika. After some experimentation I found that balance is and issue and couldn't go with the big cannons I was planning.

I've decided to go with a pair of Classic 2-pack deluxe Optimus Prime guns (the tommy gun looking ones). They fold up and work well as heavy machine guns and are pretty articulated, so I'm hoping they look better when I get them attached to Strika and painted up.

Re: TFcon 2013 Charity Project (Group B): Enter the Vehicons!

I haven't started in earnest either - I'm waiting for my planned mold to be released, so I've been eyeing my secondary tie-in idea in the meantime and contemplating. Need to figure out a few specifics on it still.

I'll be honest though- that Thrust is making me reconsider how slavish I have to be to feel I'm doing Tankor justice.
