Predahank's mancave

When I moved into my new place, I was faced with the decision of renting out the basement (Vancouver real estate prices are insane) or build an awesome man cave. I guess the the thread title is a spoiler....

Did you buy a G1 collection or two? I couldn't imagine these being eBay purchases with our lousy CAD exchange rate and most things being listed in USD.

Most sourced locally, a few from boardies. I have some incoming via ebay which is a real kick in the balls with our dollar flopping

Dude, I want to be your best friend. Or baby sitter.

Are those long glass shelves supported somehow in the middle?

The original design had some gable supports down the middle but instead I opted for thicker 10mm glass to maintain a cleaner look

Diamond store fixtures. They do custom display for retail. The "tf room" is small so I wanted to maximize my display space with custom dimensions. I would suggest finding a company locally that does the same thing as shipping 500lb cabinets across the country might not be economical lol

Re: Predahank's mancave

I know. The problem that i am having is that I cannot seem to find such a company here I am sure they are out there just not able to find them but thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have a small room like yours and detolf's seperate my collection to much for my liking

Got me at the multi-arcade cabinet with SF II loaded in it.

Like rev said clean and I'll add minimalistic. Very tight man cave.

It's not about how much you make, rather how you allocate funds. You see, I haven't eaten this week and I can't remember the last time I purchased socks.

Where do you get most of your TF's from? I'm in Van as well and just starting to collect.

LOL! True, but you did say something about Vancouver and we all know that's one of the most expensive places in Canada to live. I was just being curious, not trying to pry. :)

mps are usually preordered from japan. G1 stuff I buy/sell/trade with locals (you'll run into the usual suspects) and sometimes boardies. 3p stuff from asia and sometimes ages 3 and up in lougheed mall, to support local brick and mortar. I also scour craigslist and the odd yard sale for interesting finds. Generally anywhere I can find good deals, be it amazon, walmart.ca, ebay, tru etc

happy hunting!

Beautiful cases/shelves. I've been looking for similar ones but they're so expensive. Probably about $1k each, right?

$1700 ea but it came with led lights and storage cabinets underneath for all those pesky boxes. I also used thicker glass. I added more led strip lighting bought from amazon.

Re: Predahank's mancave

Very nice!!!

Suggest a projector for your room, just as cheap as the tv and it will work on your wall. Mine does

predahank 01-26-2016 08:39 PM

Re: Predahank's mancave

I did give a projector some thought. It would have saved me many man hours running wires through the wall studs and cabinets. In the end I opted for the 75" 4k samsung

I really am a stay at home dad. I took 5 years off to raise my daughter until she starts school, that's why I'm always lurking on these boards

Wow, grats on you, that's not easy to do, especially being a guy as people still seem to have this daft expectation that men should be the bread winners.

As Howard Wallowitz on the big bang theory says, wife came with fun bags and money bags eh? LOL.

:D

I would love to take 5 years off to be with my boy
