I am happy enough with the Skystalker being my Ratbat along side the Laserbeak repaint one.

In a Nutshell...

Basically in the IDW comic continuity Ratbat was once "Senator Ratbat" and was a major player on Cybertron.

Stuff goes down (the usual, betrayal, greed etc) until Soundwave decides that while Senator Ratbat would be useful to the decepticons he would be more easily controlled when he spark was transferred into a smaller body.
