If I wanted to get into the MP line, big time...

...I'm thinking about getting not only a few MPs, but I am tinkering with the idea of getting all the 'new scale' (post-MP 10 Optimus Prime, from what I gather) Masterpieces.

Which ones would I need to get at this point? I'm thinking that the newer Prime, Soundwave, Starscream, the three Datsuns and the two Lambos...is that it?

I'm thinking I might go for a major shift in my collection, but my original wants for MP were only about four or five bots. So I thought that at this point, it might be the best chance to get into the entire MP line (at somewhat reasonable costs) right now...sticking to on-screen characters, in my case.

Thanks for any help, guys.

MP10 - Optimus Prime with trailer - consider the upcoming Toys R Us exclusive "Year of the Horse" (YOTH) edition if you don't mind the gold color chrome, as he will be ~$130-$150 if you can find him. Otherwise, Hasbro or Takara MP10 will run you $200-$300 on the secondary market.

Mp11 Starscream (improved version) is being re-issued and can be pre-ordered for $199.99.

Hasbro MP Thundercracker is also the newer seeker mold and can be had for $100. Acid Storm too, slightly cheaper.

Takara MP Soundwave will run you $150 or so, and the Hasbro version is going at $180-$200 on the secondary market right now. The Hasbro one comes with all 5 MP tapes, the Takara only comes with Lazerbeak so I'd go Hasbro.

Lambor (Sideswipe) and Red Alert are being re-issued by Takara too and can be pre-ordered for $70-$80. Sideswipe goes for that on the secondary market too. Tigertrack is a little harder to find, but not bad... And G2 Sideswipe can be pre-ordered.

Prowl, Smokescreen, and Bluestreak (the Fairlady Z cars) are easily obtained now for ~$70-$80 each, but note that we have a listing from Toys R Us USA of MP Prowl for $69.99 coming this year. If true, we don't know yet if/how it may be different from Takara. And of course, getting one from TRU can be a challenge sometimes. There's also maybe-evidence of a Sideswipe TRU release too, but that's more "iffy". One last thing about the Fairlady Z cars: a mysterious "special" Bluestreak is coming (BBTS has pre-orders up for him) and *might* be a blue Bluestreak (if speculation is right).

Then there's Wheeljack in August and Bumblebee and Ultra Magnus (with trailer/armor, not just a white Prime) later on (maybe into 2015).

A simple approach for on-screen characters would be:

- Find MP10 on the secondary market: $250
- pre-order MP11 Starscream re-issue: $200
- buy MP Sideswipe on secondary market: $80
- Pre-order MP Red Alert: $80
- buy MP Prowl, Smokescreen, Bluestreak: $80 ea = $240
- find and buy Hasbro MP Soundwave with 5 tapes on the secondary market: $200
- Find Hasbro MP Thundercracker on secondary market: $100

~$1200 (depending on exact prices, shipping, etc).

You may also want to consider Grimlock ($200 reissue available now) and MP09 Rodimus ($150 or so secondary market for the Hasbro one) as they are close to scale with the newer ones (depending on your tolerance).

You mentioned maybe getting ALL the "new scale" ones, which would be:

- MP10 Optimus (variants/re-issues: YOTH, black, Rebirth)
- MP11 Starscream (note: he's the same basic size as the original MP seekers)
- Hasbro Soundwave with 5 tapes OR Takara Soundwave plus both MP tape sets (2 tapes per set, sets are MP15 and MP16).
- Lamborghinis: Sideswipe, Red Alert, Tigertrack, G2 Sideswipe
- Fairlady Z's: Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen, "special" Bluestreak
- Hasbro MP Thundercracker (newer seeker mold) --NOTE: Takara MP Thundercracker is the old seeker mold--
- Hasbro MP Acid Storm (newer seeker mold)
- Takara MP11S Sunstorm (newer seeker mold)
Then maybe:
- MP Grimlock (reissue available)
- MP Rodimus (Hasbro version has no trailer, Takara does. Alternate: MP09B "Black Rodimus")
- MP Skywarp (old seeker mold, but in scale with newer seeker mold)

Also, can get MP10(B) Scourge/Nemesis for $120.00 online. No trailer but the figure is real nice.

Oops, forget $120, how about $90.00?

Goaliebot summed it up pretty well but you can't say "the entire line" and mean only the new stuff ;) the originals started the line so they are surely part of it :)

I do have a bunch of doubles of the mp's I might be selling. Once I dig through what im selling ill let you know.

Re: If I wanted to get into the MP line, big time...

The question of scale is a confusing one too. If MP11 is in-scale with MP10 then all MP seekers are in-scale with MP10, all the way back to MP03 "Greenscream".

I though Rodimus in bot mode was "MP10 scale" too as when MP10 was being teased, they made note of how Prime would be in-scale with Rodimus now - hence the famous pic from the design team of MP09 and MP10 shaking hands. But their vehicle modes seem off scale - Rodimus's car seems too big.

Then there's Grimlock, who I think is in much better scale to MP10 than MP01. A bit taller in bot mode than Prime, but not towering. Not in "G1 toy scale", but close to fiction scale...? Honestly I don't know. How big is a robot dinosaur anyway? :)

To me, it's only MP01 (first Optimus) and MP05 (Megatron) who are *completely* out of scale with the rest of the line (but they scale nicely to each other).

MP04 was MP01 + trailer, aka "Perfect Edition Convoy".

Megs was MP05: http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/mas...megatron-2423/

Start with MP09 and MP13...yep...conventiently located in my sales thread lol.

Seems a growing trend of people going MP only. This became a little more attractive with more MP releases over the last year and a half. 1 a year would've killed most people lol.

Missing from your list I would say MP Rodimus, he's to scale to Prime in bot mode, MP Thundercracker same mold as MP11 Starscream and upcoming MP Wheeljack (now's a good time to pre-order cause he's between $45-55).

There's also 3rd Party Quakewave which for now is a close as we are going to get to Shockwave as apparently the toy likeness is owned by another company and not Hasbro/Takara.
