Tricky to say.... What timeline are we focusing on? If we talk original G1 Cartoon I say StarScream. If we talk Transformers Prime then Ratchet. IDW is Megatron or Swerve.

As with anything, it is hard to define "greatest" in such a poll, without being given the criteria for which to evaluate.

The question indicates "character", but even that would need to be defined. Literally? Figuratively?

Are we looking for the best personality? The most interesting personality? The character who would be a good leader? The character who most-influenced story lines? Or are we looking for a character/toy who had a fun, interesting transformation, with a good-looking bot mode and alt-mode(s).

Different people will rate various characteristics differently. One might even think a character to be great, just because the voicing in the cartoon was great.

It is hard for me to provide a real opinion without detailed criteria and appropriate ranking of given criteria.

This is why people working on important policy decisions literally take days to draft the question. Without a clear objective question everything comes down to opinion and interpretation.

I think what were really asking here is "who is the most iconic transformers character of all time?" In that case: G1 Optimus Prime no question.

If on the other hand we mean most powerful, most impactful on the fiction, etc. then there are other equally valid answers.
