How do I Open Carded Figures without Destroying Packaging?

I've a few POTP Deluxe/Legend Class figures I am planning to open but want to avoid destroying the card and bubble. What's the best way to do this?

I ran across an ~10 year old thread on this topic, but was hoping techniques have improved since then:

Any ideas?

I was using an Exacto knife to cut the bubble away from the cardback on three sides in order to keep the packaging more or less intact.

Lately though, I've been discarding the bubble from carded figures to save space.

This is what Ive been doing so I can keep the cards. Been working great as long as the blade is sharp enough

So do you put the knife between the plastic and the card (the glued interface)? Or do you try to cut the plastic bubble away from portion of the plastic that is glued to the card?

I've never tried it an honestly don't think it would work, but I remember reading on a toy collecting site, you could use a heat gun or hot air dryer to heat up the glue and make the bubble come off very cleanly.

You might check into this on GI Joe or Hot Wheels forums since this has been an issue since the beginning of time for those guys. I read once that you can use acetone to dissolve the glue through the cardboard and keep the bubble intact but I've never really tried it.

I cut the bubble off using a small pair of scissors, leaving behind the glued on section of the plastic. I used to only cut three sides to preserve the bubble, but too much of a waste of space.

I make a flap such that the inner tray can slide out.

To do this, cut along the perforation along the bottom of the bubble, where the bubble meets the card.

Then cut the bottom on the bubble on both sides to make a flap.

I'm with you alternatorfan, I buy it for the figure not the cheap clam-shell packaging. Also keeping the packaging takes up excess space.

I do however keep my 3rd party boxes & Hasbro Titan boxes tho in case I ever resell them at a later date.
