Star Wars Transformers Darth Vader/Anakin - Star Destroyer Released
 

In other Star Wars Transformer Crossover news we have learned that the highly anticipated(?) Darth Vader/Anakin - Star Destroyer/Republic Attack Cruiser Quadruple-changer has been Released at a Wal Mart in Edmonton.

According to the very specific report from racerguy76 this big guy retails for $48-something.

Saw this at Square One Wal-Mart this morning. I was kind of underwhelmed, though I would have liked to see the Star Destroyer in all its glory.

SWTF are really hit or miss IMO... Mostly miss. The little ones look neat, but to me, this one looks a bit messy.

My concerns with this one are:

• the Jedi Cruiser looks kinda ugly
• Vader isn't very Vadery
• Anakin is even less Anakiny, and is holding on to a big chunk of Star Destroyer

Vader almost makes a better Starscream.

I like the idea behind this better than the execution, and the price is currently keeping me away.

For me, these are like two great toy lines blended into one horrible toy. Star Wars = Awesome. Transformers = Awesome. Star Wars + Transformers = Garbage.

It's the Alien and Predator of the toy world.

I was exicted about this but once I seen it I was pretty disappointed.

Needless to say it went from a want to I'll only concider it if it's for $20 or less.

I haven't seen this one at my local Wally yet... so you guys are saying it looks crap even in package?
Does anyone know what the batteries do? Flashing lights? Does Vader talk? Star Wars theme song?

It doesn't look like crap. It just doesn't look as awesome as the Death Star Vader. The Vader figure is imposing...but in a way that (to me) is more Starscream than Vader.

It does speak. Vader had several full sentence lines. I don't know if transforming it to Anakin has it change voices.

And I disagree that all SWTF are garbage. Some are quite good, especially considering that the vehicles have to take precedence over the figures. That you can get Darth Vader to transform at all is pretty nifty; that you can turn him into a Tie Fighter or the Death Star is kinda magic.

This one, though, has a few things that concern me that I listed. It may be a great toy, but I'm just not willing to bet $50 on that yet. I really want to see what the Star Destroyer looks like.

It is fun, but it is parts formery. A few things could have improved this one a lot.

1) An ankle tilt
2) A place to store the 3 lightsabers
3) A place to store the 2 guns
4) A handle for the shield so he could hold it in his fist instead of snapping it on his forearm
5) A better forearm snap system. Both the double cannon and the shield divide into 2 parts that snap around the peg on the forearm, so it is very easy to knock them off.
6) The Giant horns could have snapped onto the back to make a faux cape. I might mod mine to do this.

I like the look of both ships, and both bots. The transformation between anakin and vader is simple, but cool, as most of it is automated.

I think the ship modes could use some sort of paint wash to bring out the detail more, so that the ships don't look brand spanking new.

It is cool how many sounds this thing makes.

I'll be messing around with this with my daughter quite a bit.

I tried turning that top part down to make a cape, but it means you have to unfold that cover on the back and it makes the figure even more back-heavy...

A little update: I found out what's the purpose of the flip-up tabs on the Class I figures: they can connect to the squarish hole located on the front portion of the Jedi Cruiser mode!

I saw him at Zellers last night. I didn't get a chance to price scan it, but the tag on the shelf showed a price of $39.99. It was labeled Starwars III transformer $39.99.

*SIGH* Hasbro makes this train wreck, but they won't re-issue the Darth Vader Death Star so I don't have to pay out the nose for one.

I can see where there might be some good points to this figure, but the only SWTF in that scale I ever wanted was the Death Star Vader, I mean they'll re-issue Unicron ad-infenitum, but not Death Vader?

such an awesome toy, but the back is prone to early yellowing... i have seen a few shelfwarming at zellers.
