Consumer's Distributing Jetfire With Missiles

I've always heard rumours of a Generation 1 Jetfire variant which was offered exclusively from a mail-order only Canadian store named Consumer's Distributing. The rumour was that the figure came with missiles which launch from the figure's gun, which was spring loaded already. A friend of mine recently bought a complete copy and inside were some little missiles which appear to fit inside the gun, though none are loose so we can't confirm. Is this true? Anyone else seen this?

It is a Canadian box so that adds legitimacy. I don't know why but I didn't get close photos of the missiles. They're definitely not from any other 1984-1987 figures, I have a complete collection of those years and they don't match anything I have. They're not Roadbuster nor Wheeljack.

Looked into this in 2011 a little bit when I got shown a G1 Jetfire boxed in robot mode that was said to be that consumers distributing variant. Story was it had been recalled due to the missile firing feature.

I chatted about it with Protoman and a couple other esteemed experts. General vibe was, maybe it existed because there were a lot of little differences on different production runs - but the one I snapped a picture of boxed in robot mode was likely a creative swap out with the styrofoam from the robotech version. The styrofoam trays would fit in the Hasbro Jetfire boxes.

Daniel mentioned that some early versions of Jetfire did come with shooting missiles and even Macross decals on the wings, hilighting the varied production runs of the beast.

So maybe, but it could just easily be a folk tale spawned with slivers of truth to it(like the shooting missiles)

It's as much a mystery as the black face Canadian Slag I guess.

Canadian Slag came in both black AND red and honestly, one does not seem more rare then the other in Canada. It's almost a toss up. In the states it's another story

I know Tusko has a firing missile one from childhood, and I seen one at tfcon last year. I am going to try to hunt one down for my collection since I love Canadian variants.

I have mine from childhood, and his gun is working but I don't have any missiles. What did they do in later runs? Remove the missiles or modify the gun?

Im curious about what version I have.

All versions have the firing gun, they just took the missiles from the box. So the story goes.

It exists. I know of one for sale in my location. Saw it today. Guy says he’s only ever seen one for sale on eBay. It was in the package. Comes in robot mode.

My childhood Jetfire had missiles but they didn't fire. They were really small and didn't really fit in the gun. Mine was not a Consumers figure though, just Woodward's as far as my mum remembers.

Imagine Consumers Distributing would have been the Amazon of today along with Sears catalogue. Their system was great. Big warehouse in the back, small store front. You handed them that paper with your item number and they would go get it... I guess their management couldn't see into the future...

You are totally right, if they could have just hung on for another decade they might be thriving today.

Feeling super old thinking about Consumers Distributing, explaining to my kids that I had to find out new Transformers toys through commercials & waiting for a paper catalogue to arrive in the mail.

I kept the 1988 (? I think) catalog in one of my collection containers. I'll have to scan it at some point.

Consumers was awesome for their catalogs and low prices since they had no floor showcase.

The only problem was their products were tagged with long store-code stickers on it. So was a pain to remove the sticker from a collectors TF box.

[EDIT] false memory conclusion! The sticker only came on my Brainstorm, cause the toy had been returned. Other boxes had NO stickers.
This actually made them better than other stores at the time, who may have had price tags stuck on their boxes.

Is this the Jetfire you are referring to?

Wonderful childhood memories!

Those toy pages in the Consumers Distributing catalogue are what I thought Heaven would be like! At least at age 8.

I thought there was a thread with links to a site that had scanned those pages? Anyways, back to 2020.
