Platinum ed BM Optimus Primal on Pre-Order

News: Platinum Edition Beast Machines Optimus Primals are now available for pre-order on the Toys R Us website. Priced at $199.99.

Personal Commentary:
  • Dang, two hundo for a mold from one of the most notorious toylines. Sadly, $199.99 seems to be the going rate for platinum editions these days.
  • He's got a questionable redeco too, another recent platinum edition trend, now in traditional semi-truck red & blue. Somewhere, someone said "you know what would make this ape look better? If it looked more like a truck."
  • Releasing a Beast Machines toy to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars seems like an odd choice, but maybe they think they would get fewer sales from an actual BW Optimus rerelease due to the MP BW Optimus being released in the same year?

Oh, and remember, guys. Only two per customer. ;)

Really??? $199.99??? Who is it that comes up with this price point?

How many Platinum sets have actually sold at the original prices they set? Even when this figure gets dropped to $100...and it will...even $100 is going to be a stretch.

The only one I know of that sold at the original price was YOTS Omega Supreme and that never hit Canada. I was reading an article about how badly TRU is doing financially and they ways they are thinking of to get new customers in. Pretty sure this isn't the way. You would figure they would learn their lesson given how many times the Platinum editions clog their shelves and end up going clearance but we do we know we just buy the stuff lol (well not this one)

I think $50 might be a reasonable price... but I already have the original one, so won't buy it anyway.

Platinum line needs to die. Hasbro/TRU needs to stop assuming collectors are gonna pay insane prices on shitty repaints. We'll pay insane prices are really cool 3P product, but not on 15yr old toys that were around maybe 70.00 at the time.
This goes for NECA stuff too. Way overpriced IF you can find anything in their supposed "Collectors Corner". (rolleyes) Honestly, Minecraft and Mego Halo does not equate "Collectors Corner".
I sound bitter. I guess I am. The only Platinum figs I bought was Starscream on sale (because I love that mold) and Amazon.ca had Trypticon. I honestly wouldn't care if Platinum line disappeared, not at those prices nor the shitty repaints.

Wouldn't it be something if Hasbro released the line of MPs so a person could walk into the toy aisle and choose from a wall of toys? And then did 2nd production runs so the shelves stayed stocked? I swear this used to happen with G1. Does anyone recall Toys & Wheels?

I think the problem with both Hasbro & TRU is that these are no longer run by people who love toys.

Stop mixing medications and alcohol, TRU.

Seriously, this is absolutely amazing. They've completely lost their ****ing minds.

Sorry but this is not the $200 toy I'm looking for. 'Cause man, you're going have to use the Jedi mind trick to make me pay that much for this.

I'm sure this will find a happy home right next to GOAT Laser Prime and Soundwave on the warm shelf.

Slapping new paint on an old figure does not make it a $200 dollar figure. Not when the original can still be had for relatively cheap when compared.

Would I rather spend that money on a Quakewave, or any of the gazillion 3rd party figures OR would I buy this?

Man, I don't get it. Are people actually paying these prices?
