New Wireless USB Mouse Freezing

I picked up a new Microsoft ARC Wireless Mouse last weekend to replace my old Microsoft wireless mouse.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit and the new mouse seems to pause / freeze intermittently. I found a few suggestions online, I'm going to try when I get home. So far removing Intellipoint 8.2 hasn't worked.

I figured I'd throw this out in case anyone else has dealt with this.

My old wireless mouse worked for years without any trouble until one of the buttons died on it.

So this is annoying to say the least.

I'm going to check the power saving features next, and move the little receiver to a different USB port next. I did some googling and it hasn't turned up much in the way of suggestions so far.

If your mouse is freezing on you, put it in the microwave to dethaw it for a few minutes. That should do the trick. :p

Re: New Wireless USB Mouse Freezing

I had an issue with my cordless mouse acting funny a few years ago.
It was a Logitech MX 1000. The short form of the story is that I require my mice to have a gazillion buttons. So instead of using the standard 3-button Dell mice at work, every time I buy myself a new mouse at home, I'll bring my previous mouse-at-home to work.

Anyhow, it turns out that the location of the receiving base was the issue. Not that it was too far or anything, but it was the positioning: my computer tower at the office at the time was behind my 3x 24" screens, and the receiveing base was behind the monitors. Took me months to figure it out. I then moved the base so that it had a pretty good line-of-sight to the mouse with no heavy electronics in between, and everything's been smooth since.

Looks like moving the USB receiver from the back of the PC to the front is working.

I set the power saving to not power save the USB ports as was recommended when I googled and that didn't work.

At this point moving to the front seems to have done the trick. My old mouse receiver was also plugged into the back, guess it was a little stronger.
