well no cause prime would've shot megatron first.hot rod got in the way and prime didn't want to miss and shoot him so he didn't shoot.if he hadn't gotten in the way prime would blow the brains out of megatron.or robotic brains or what ever.

According to the original script and the Marvel comic adaptation, even if Hot Rod didn't try to stop Megatron, Megs still would have pulled the gun on Prime and killed him. Destiny is ever moving, and the chosen one would still come to be that which is Rodimus Prime. It is the will of the Matrix.
