$60 fees on a $100 item??? The last time I bought 2 of the biggest Master Grade Gundam kits (Sazabi and The-O) from HLJ during their sales, the total was 20,444 Japanese yen. After exchange rate, I ended up paying $252 Cdn and I was dinged $29.49 custom. It's not too bad since the 2 kits were 40% and 30% off each, plus 20% off Fedex.
I also order some clothes from UK once or twice a year. I don't get dinged if the shirt was shipped by Royal Mail. But if the retailer only ships oversea via Fedex I have no choice if I really want the item. Let's face it, if you are buying high value collectibles, Fedex is a lot more reliable and they really handle with care. The last thing you want is receive a damaged goods.

^ You get charged more customs fees when using UPS, like double what you get charged by Fedex.

USPS is my preference too, never go through the couriers as a fee will accompany your shipment. Every purchase from TF Source, I have never had to pay customs fees. BBTS, almost every package I get tagged with customs fees.

^I wonder if TFSource is not declaring their shipments properly... that's the only explanation if you use USPS to ship from both sites.
It's true, UPS charges more brokerage fees than anyone else. There was even a class-action lawsuit about it at some point.
Damages happen with couriers too. I really can't say if it's better or worse than post. Much of it comes down to how well the parcel is packed. The package processing is much the same, manual sorting onto conveyor belts and chutes. Boxes tumble, sometimes other boxes fall onto them... stuff like that is pretty common because no one handles packages exclusively by hand, there is always some automation.
With couriers, most of what you're paying for is faster and more accurate shipping times. With post you never really know when it will get here.

BBTS just dropped the price on their Botcon 2010 set to $256. Is that a good price?

@kirbenvost They're not, TFSource is not super big and well known and they can get away with declaring a lower amount like ebay sellers do so we don't get charged with as many fees. BBTS, on the other hand, cannot get away with that.

Bummer. I ordered HA Roadbuster online from Sears.ca and they shipped me HA Skids instead. Not happy. It came in a brown cardboard box with the label Roadbuster too...
