Exactly, I don't see how this could be worth $600. They're acting like this is Unicron.

chess is pretentious by nature. "good sets" although worth it to some. are expensive and overpriced.

Hand painted is the key phrase here.

Hand painted these days means the person hit "enter" on the computer.

This is Eaglemoss' M.O. They do all sorts of part works lines, and subscription based lines. I have a bunch of their Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica ships. They do some pretty good work, but they can have QC issues from time to time, and they aren't cheap.

They have done Chess sets in the past (DC, Marvel, etc) and you can get some really great mini statues in the line, but they are not worth buying first run, unless you really don't care about money and just want the whole set as soon as possible. Otherwise just wait. Most of the chess pieces from their other lines, DC and Marvel especially, sell for less than original asking price so there really is no value to getting them at release.

I guess the only interesting part of this to me is what the magazines will include for content. Eaglemoss has been pretty good at getting interesting content for their magazines. Behind the scenes stories, pictures, interviews, etc. If they can somehow do that with TFs then it might be a good topic of discussion.

Thew posted a video today where he got one of the piece prototypes. This is going to a massive chessboard.

I guess that makes it a little better, but the figure still look like RED figures with no articulation standing on blocks. It's not for me, but if others like it, all the power to you.

I thought they were going to use Haslab to make more niche characters and projects. This seems like something you would walk into Gamestop or TRU and purchase from them (albeit bigger).

Not for $700 CAD.

I'll just make a LEGO Chess set and use my KRE-O Transformer figures.

LEGO has produced a chess set... not sure how it would look with KRE-O TFs on it though -- if sizing would lookk right.
