generations legends optimus prime and roller review

thanks to big philipino's annual tfcon free raffle i scored this guy to add to my prime's collection.

i really like how he's pretty accurate to the idw comics in bot and alt mode.
i do have a few pet peeves with him though.
i'll just list it all in "pros" and "cons".


first off,pros.

accurate to idw comics
nice g1-ish blockyness, yet still decently articulated.(ball jointed knees/hips/shoulders,levered shoulder pads/pecs/back bot flap/truck grill,swiveling head)
nice balance for posing
options with the rifle being able to combine to roller or mount onto roof in alt mode.
you get a transforming roller(albiet,he folds open on hinges like a lawn chair but it kinda works)
cons

seriously lacking paint in alt mode(truck side windows/roof spoiler halves/rims/taillights/front upper windsheild deflectors)
chest doesn't actually clip in and stay apart in bot mode so if you split his chest like how he looks in idw's comics,the fronts of his shoulders hunch backwards.(everytime you try to pose his arms his chest closes)
back flap/alt mode grill doesn't clip anywhere either,so once it starts to loosen with repeat transformations,it'll literally always just flop down.
no toe/feet articulation.
the neck piece his head swivels on doesn't clip anywhere either,so again,after repeat transformations,there's going to be alot of these guys looking down into their chest like classics deluxe ironhide does.
no trailer(personal preference)
for roller himself,basically to transform him,stand his alt mode up on it's rear end like the hotwheels/rpm things a few years ago,flip his arms up.
to transform him into a twin cannon,fold him open like a lawn chair and flip down the post/handle.

not pictured or mentioned in the instructions,roller can combine/attach to prime in alt mode by way of the two slats above roller's head/front grill in alt mode.these can plug into prime's heels/truck mode rear bumper.

final thoughts,
even though i got him for free,i'd still gladly buy this team of bots when they show up on shelves here.
alot of the "cons" can be fixed imho with simple clear nail polish and minor paint apps can always be added,once i aquire a second one.
(and a third for the obvious compulsive nemesis repaint)

good review. if you ever get an extra roller maybe just add parts to that and make a trailer.

Great review dude. Its a pretty good set. I picked it up just for the roller for my Maketoys laser prime. Its the perfect scale for it. The prime does look really good with awesome Metroplex.

@matrix,i hear you on the metroplex,but i can't wait till f/p motormaster is finally released.
prime's in almost a perfect scale to recreate some of the scenes from the idw comics......"need a sword"...."NOT A SWORD...THAT'S STUPID"...."stop pulling on me"...."protect the head"....:D

Interesting thing about prime is that you can fit the combined weapon of FOC Bruticus into the spot for primes gun.
