05Jan2013 Update! Everything has been changed for the New Year!

About me:
I have been collecting since 2009. My primary focus is on characters that made cartoon appearances from 1984-1986 (the Transformer glory years of my youth).
However, I have dabbled into the Transformers Prime lines too.

Old (2011):

This living room setup was spacious and clean. The lighting was great and it really impressed in photos.
However, being so open, it did not feel like my own personal space.
So, I made the hard decision to move everything to the much smaller den downstairs.

Old (2012):
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-9Gcr75R/0/S/i-9Gcr75R-S.jpg
The den which is also the home office is very small in square footage. After the collection was moved in, it definitely felt like "MY" space.
However, it was pretty tight in there with the over sized office furniture. The carebear yellow wall paint didn't help things either.

New (January 2013):
The collection is still in the den which is a challenge due to space concerns. But I have made a number of updates which include:
- Repainted the walls to a more masculine colour
- Added frames to the posters
- Reduced clutter by splitting apart the 4 detolf cabinets into two on each wall
- Got rid of the old office furniture and replaced it with a corner desk/chair that compliments the room in both size and colour
- And of course, added more Bots to the collection!

Thanks. :) Yeah, I've spent some serious coin over the last year and a half. Probably could have paced things a little slower, but I was just so overwhelmed and felt so far behind with all this TF goodness.

I started collecting by fluke.. just walked by Ages 3+ Up retail store and saw a Revoltech of Starscream (favourite character). I purchased it immediately. I wasn't even aware these things existed. Shortly after I started doing some research, discovered more G1 inspired lines and the rest is history! :p

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

Thanks. I think it's important to have some money saved aside from the TF budget for a decent display setup. The Detolf glass cabinets look good and are cost effective. What I need now are some risers. Too many toys in the back end up being hidden from view. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks bud... you hooked me up a couple times. As for Jetfire... heheh... He's one of the more expensive vintage toys so he's kind of a lower priority right now. Especially because I love Skyfire from the cartoon and Jetfire the toy is not the same character. When I am ready, I'll let you know. ;)

Great display!

I saw one guy on TFW use 3-tier expanding risers for his display:

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-collection-showcase/249247-after-many-many-moons.html

According to him, they can be found in the kitchen / household aisle of any local walmart, target, etc. I did some googling, and found that they're typically used as spice racks or cabinet organizers.

Yes I do and you are most welcome! I'm glad they went to a good home. :) As for risers, I personally use all my old VHS tapes. You can stagger and stack them any number of ways to get the right look. The only thing I would worry about is the weight of all of them on those glass shelves.

Dude that set-up is super sweeeet! My collection's focus is also G1/G1 reissues, CHUG and MPs (so no Revoltech & Muggs) so I love looking at 'inspiration' hehe

Some nice pieces there that I have yet to own (Trypticon, the Dinobots, Menasor, Defensor)
Damn I need to catch up, been in the game almost 3 yrs now

Appreciate the comments everyone. :)

Picked up 5 Copco cabinet organizers from BB&B. They are 15" wide making them perfect for the Detolf cabinets. They are $10.95 each... so it really adds up if you buy a lot of them.

Anyway, they make a huge difference for display. Worth every penny in m opinion. Less wasted space - each cabinet "cube" looks more filled out. I'm using them in the CHUG cabinets:

http://benandwindy.smugmug.com/Other/TF-Collection/IMG3725/1213831782_HUaig-L.jpg

I plan on getting more for the vintage/reissue cabinets. Pics on the front page have been updated! :)

Awsome Display, even more amazing collection for less then 2 years.

If you don't mind me asking where do you get the display cases. They are very nice, very spartan.

Edit
NM, just noticed the post above with your comments in regards to the display cases.

Thanks for the comments guys. :)

Unfortunately, my setup is no longer in the living room - it actually hasn't been that way for months.
Everything has been moved to the MUCH SMALLER den (happy wife = happy life) which is also where the computer is. I'm going to take photos but I know they won't look as nice.

I will say that having them in the den is nice because it feels more personal that way. The living room was cool but wasn't practical. Plus I always worry when guests were over (especially little ones). The den is cramped, it feels almost overwhelming with all the toys around you. I like it!

Anyway... I've collected a lot more since those last photos were taken and I should update this thread soon. I also broke away from the G1 only collecting and now collect TF Prime as well. I can't help it - the show is the best thing I've ever seen since the original G1!

Ok.. like I mentioned a few posts ago, I had to move everything to smaller room. It does not show as well but I still like it! A lot of new stuff has been added since I last posted. Instead of retaking photos all over again, I decided to create a quick video instead:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwLs5ixZF_0&feature=plcp&context=C427948eVDvjVQa1PpcFNLkdYWfuguEGQXkP3U-manh5Vns5qF8cs=

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Very, very nice display, I like the expanded risers too, sexy! Beats using 12mm birch that I use but I get it free. I liked your original display in earlier posts best as it separated the collections from G1's and Classics a bit without cramming it together and feeling overwhelming those proportions were just right.

I have a similar problem myself here as I'm starting to put away the less interesting figures/characters to make space for the new stuff like Prime. We have a lot of the same Henkei/Classics figures but I've skipped out on the MP's and G1's except for Hasbro's MP Grimlock. As for being as organized as you, I'm going to have to buy a new house first but for now a 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th shelf expansion is due to keep things going.

Bravo, keep up the great work.

Thanks! I need to update.. there are a lot more new additions since that last video. Also repainted the den last night - got rid of that carebear yellow and went with something more neutral. Way better now.

Yes! I live in a mosaic row home. lol There are a few of them out in the tricities. I live at the one near riverbend (by coquitlam river).
