I was browsing eBay and came across this "reasonably priced" Sleep Convoy.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Transformers-Masterpiece-convoy-sleep-mode-Takara-Tomy-/160533149578?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256085778a#ht_1756wt_1139

I guess the guy didn't do the conversion properly.

I am not liking how these post of Ebay and Kijiji "finds" are constantly labeled as "idiots," some of these people could be board members, or I might find myself refraining to post my own items online for fear that this board was going out of its way to insult me.

why is the fake transformers so expensive, the real one is only $150 to $250 in box....I have seen that one before at a flea market for dollar store prices , How rare is it?

He wrote back

Hello, you should have bought it when you could.... sometimes the knock offs are more rare than the original ones, thus more expensive, your offer whas declined as you can see.

thanks a lot for your interest

Might be a good idea to file a claim sooner rather than later. Just to protect yourself. If the item does come in, you can always cancel the claim. If they have anything on the auction saying their typical ship time (usually 2-5 business days), you should have a valid enough reason to file the claim if they took 3+ weeks to ship.

Why doesn't it have a rubsign?

Everything(well almost) exists pre-rubsign from the Diaclone/Microman toy lines that Hasbro gobbled up to make Transformers.

I assume this Mexican Prowl would fall into that sort of category.

I marked the dates on the calendar so I don't lose track, that way if I don't see anything the week before I plan to look into getting the claim for myself.

They didn't even email me back, I just got a auto notice from Ebay telling me my item was marked as shipped.. The day I email to ask about it.

I re-read their feedback again, thinking I must have missed something when I bid. They had one negative and 5 neutrals. 99.4% positive.. Maybe it slipped through the cracks..

Im pretty new to Ebay. I had an account forever but almost never used it. Just since Nov. now have I got back to it and am learning my way about it. But might be my first time with the claims with Ebay and Paypal.

1. It's not AFA graded, AFA doesn't use plastic bags.
2. It's not new, it's sealed.

Yup, takes me back to 1984 when I could just buy this mail away exclusive right off the store shelf....right? Right?

READY TO BE SENT TO AFA FOR GRADING
AFA would grade anything if you'll pay them for it.

I don't even bother with filing with e bay or paypal as I have found that there are too many excuses for them not to help,.. go right to your card holder they will work for you right up to the 90 day mark (I always file 3 or 4 days before the 90 don't leave it till the last day) paypal will only reconise the first 45 and e bay 60,... I have had things from overseas take 60 days+customs to arrive with out a problem,... throw in a problem and add the days...... the card company has never let me down and I have always gotten a refund,I have always had issues with Ebay/paypals rules regarding time and coverage not to mention the many letters written to have them make special issue(change policy) for overseas and pre orders to cover these special situations so i now deal directaly with the card company.

My Full Tilt came yesterday. There was a print out in the box. The auction ended on Jan 7th, I paid for it immediately. And then 3 weeks later when I didn't receive anything, I emailed them through Ebay.

I got no response from them, but for the little package 'light' came on for it. But the estimated delivery date from the day of the auction was Jan 18th to the 22nd. And it was the 26th at that point.

I got the box on Feb 4th and the post stamp says it was mailed on the Jan 27th and the sheet was printed on the 21st. So they didn't even print the sheet until about 2 weeks after auction close, and didn't mail it until almost 3 weeks after.

I'll have to keep any eye out for them in the future, I'm not sure it's worth this kind of hassle. But I did win Full Tilt for a good price. So, I'm happy in the end I guess. And he's in nice shape.

i dont know where you got him for $30. if i remember correctly he was $59.99 everywhere i saw him and when i bought him. but thats still double his original price but he is a very cool toy and like all good ones they go up in value. though i didnt think amazon worked like ebay in that regard.

the yellowing issue. i know chansformers has a how to in the customizing thread for white plastic. maybe it works the same for the grey.

It was $30 in the states too, for a long time. Toys R Us had them for $30 on clearance for months, and even Hasbro Toy Shop had them for $30 (though the shipping was brutal).

At the time, SWTF were not getting much love, and it was originally expensive enough that not many people wanted to take the chance. I went back and forth for awhile myself, and I generally like SWTFs.

Lots of people felt kind of burned by the SWTF Millenium Falcon, which was a great vehicle but kinda lame otherwise. I think most people thought Death Star Darth was just going to suck somehow.

Only until after it's pretty much gone from retail did enough people have one and start talking about it for everyone to realize it was a really good toy.

Anyway, with the Blu-Rays just coming out, it's not a good time to be buying one. Hype makes people stupid.

Ebay has a few MISB for about that price. I'm not sure why it is so ridiculous though. It is a toy that is not longer available at retail and imo the best swtf to date.

Is it worth 130? No way, but there are other non-misb that u could pick up for a much better deal.

It's not that bad, though it is tricky to not mess up something that you already correctly put into place.

The first one I bought had an assembly error -- one of the panels had a left and right version, and mine had two lefts. I spent forever on that until I finally realized it was an error and it would never fit into place.

After getting the replacement, transforming it into the Death Star was comparatively easy.

Thats why you contact the seller and ask them for photos or for more info. If they don't provide anything then it's a sign to steer clear. The corrispondence can also act as proof if the item isn't as described.

I've seen at least one seller use "stock photos" of vintage G1 items, which is pretty useless. He never responded to my multiple requests for photos, so I didn't bother bidding.

I was going to chime in and say that with the recent restocks, the idea that this would be "rare" was pretty silly.

Then I read this this morning:
Hottest toys disappearing fast, analyst says (http://www.parentcentral.ca/parent/activities/article/1086832--hottest-toys-disappearing-fast-analyst-says)

On the list of "Hot toys, short supplies" is Ultimate Optimus. Color me surprised.

On articles this morning on both the Globe and Mail and the Star, they talked about how this year retailers do not want to be stuck with stock, so they're not ordering as much. This means if things run out, they won't be able to get more as quickly.

In Transformers case, it's Hasbro that's shouldering the risk and the stock, whereas in previous years it would be retailers who purchased and held the goods. Who knows how that will play out?

to be a bit fair, i dont think they cost only 200 total when they were first released, i would say closer to 300-400, based on 15 dollars for deluxes, 30 for voyagers, and more on the 2-packs since they are never released in canada and both 2-packs have ultra magnus in them

I can't say that I think its crazy since a bunch of those deluxes have been in a $30-$50 range for a while.(I don't know if the reissues of Hotrod and Bee lowered the price on the originals)

Still if you shop around and know the right folks you can get them for reasonable prices. Patience usually pays off.

I'm thinking $500-$600 would be more reasonable for the lot.

Edit: Just glanced at completed sales on ebay and recently a MIB Ramjet went for $67 and a MIB Mirage went for $45.

About time... maybe we will start to see some of the new pieces to keep the shelves moving as opposed to Canada being a dumping ground for over/old stock I for one am tired of buying in the U.S. just incase it doesn't show up here after kicking around south of the boarder for a couple of months Hasbro is notorious for not shipping end of lines here (or in vary short supply, only in certain areas Never did see an animated arcee for instance) which leaves us scrambling to find them.

Has gold bee shown up on eBay for a ridiculous price yet?

Not insanely ridiculous, but yes lots of Canadians are offering him for about $50 - $60.

Personally I don't really care though. It is a $40 to $60 figure at retail, it just so happens that it is on sale at Wal-Mart for $20 here in Canada. People need to remember that it is not "on sale" everywhere in the world. The community sometimes gets this weird sense of entitlement that just because it is a low price in one place, it needs to be everywhere else too.

It is the way this hobby works, people get stuff on sale (or even free in the case of Aveo Swerve) and try to sell it for more. The sad thing is that at the end of it all, the seller won't make much money at all and IMO is a waste of time. Lets break it down:

Sold for $50
Paid lets say $23 after tax at Wally World
Pay Ebay lets say $4 in fees
Pay Paypal $3 in fees
Pay Paypal another $0.50 in fees to transfer to bank account.

That leaves the seller with an extra whopping $19.50. But when you take into account gas and time, you really make nothing at all.

Let's say you waste $3 on gas (or bus fare) and then another 2 hours of time getting to the store, waiting in line to buy it, going home, taking photos and putting them on the computer, making the ebay listing, packing the damn thing up, driving to the Post office etc. Even if you did all of that in 2 hours, you still would have made more money if you just worked at a minimum wage job like McDonalds for 2 hours.

Basically scalping toys = fail.

I have sold about 20 items on ebay bc i let the market determine the price. That was and still is the foundation that ebay banks on.

I rarely buy ebay items from Canada bc the sellers put up these ridiculous buy it now prices and or shipping prices with the psychotic thinking that someone will pay 85 for 10 blitzwing junkers plus shipping or 45 for 2 ttansformer key chains.

Ive seen the same items up for sale on ebay.ca for over a year and its genuinely annoying having to peruse them to see new items. Why doesnt seller lakeportghettobeer get it that no one is going to buy a weapon for 2 and pay 18 for shipping!!! Oh and mp-04 for 1100 dollars bahaha.

The sellers need to get through their heads the market sets the price not you! Thats what an auction is!

Just a tip when shipping weapons/accessories use padded envelope packages! They are just as safe and cost 2.00-3.00 to ship! Then you might sell your left optimus prime fist!

CBII
06-16-2013, 02:11 PM
LOL I love the rant!

The shipping parts thing is always a PITA from my experience.

Example: I can ship a standard gun (say G1 Prime) in a padded envelope for just the cost of stamps for an oversized letter. Now if I want to ship say Alternators Windchargers gun, I can ship it in the same padded envelope but because the shape of the engine makes the "thickness" of the padded envelope greater then about 2cm, this automatically bumps your padded envelope with maybe 50g of plastic in it to a parcel. So the cost now jumps from about $1.25ish to about $5-$7 ish.

Fawking stupid.

Now for eBay this means that a seller can charge you the say $7 for shipping but sneak the package off to you for less then $2 and pocket the rest of the money. Shady practice??? Maybe, maybe not. Personally I've done flat shipping within Canada by figureing out the shipping cost from me (Edmonton) to say Halifax and if someone in Calgary wins and shipping is less well to bad I guess. Beats being out of pocket for extra shipping costs.

Now all this being said honest sellers that are just tring to be a fair as possible to the buyers and to themselves will have exact shipping or only slightly inflated rates which I think is acceptable. The problem lies in that people are greedy and are inflating there shipping cost to make more and to cover the ebay/paypal fees etc.

I've also noticed that everyone eBay is paranoid of being ripped off so every package has to be tracked which drives the cost up A LOT, or they pick the most expensive shipping for the auction and then when they get to the post office they pick the cheapest shipping (which has no tracking) and again pocket the extra cash.

LOL I'll step off the soap box now.

Deception
06-16-2013, 02:45 PM
i think the worse cases are sellers closing their auctions before it ends because they don't get enough...are there rules against that? i was watching an item which ended at 35$ which was incredibly cheap, only to see it being relisted a day later.
