Yes, Welker was the voice of G1 Megatron and Soundwave among others.

But he's also a legend in the world of voice-over acting. If you've ever watched a cartoon that wasn't an English dub of an anime then chances are you've heard his work.

As for his work on Prime, I have a feeling he won't be playing Megatron unless he does something different than the G1 voice. Since the 80s, there has been a consistent movement away from G1 Megatron's voice in Transformers cartoons. I don't see them going back to it now. If I had to put money on it, I bet he's the voice of Soundwave and perhaps a few other incidental characters.

I haven't the slightest idea of what to expect from this series in way of generation, style, etc. (does anyone?), but hearing that Cullen -and- Welker are attached is definitely encouraging. Bring in Cory Burton to reprise Shockwave and Tom Kenny to reprise his Latta-esque version of Starscream, then I'm 100% sold regardless of what they do with this show.

I don't know if its that or because they are just really great voice actors.

Peter Cullen is a must given the success of the last two movies and since Frank Welker has done quite a bit of voice work in the transformers video games, they might as well hire him on to do the cartoon.

You know, the more we hear about this new "Prime" series, the more it sounds like a G1 Redux series. Good thing they didn't call it that. Otherwise we'd have people complaining that it's not G1 enough. I bet Welker will be voicing Slapper in the new series.:p Both the RiD frog and the Universe/Armada Dinobot. It'll be Grimlock, Snarl, Swoop, Sludge, and Slapper. Slag killed Snarl and stole his name so they had to get a new Dinobot. And RiD Slapper just to screw with people even more!
