Is there an entrance fee?

I didn't get a chance to go to Transformers Con, so I don't know what to expect in terms of vendors.

Are items usually higher or lower than retail/ebay prices? Will it be insanely crowded or packed? I'm looking for more Alternators and Binaltechs, and I"m not sure if I should save up some money for this convention.

I'd appreciate any info people may have, thanks!

07-22-2007, 02:21 PM
Hi all, thanks for your interest in our 4th annual Action Figure Expo. The admission for the show will be $10 for regular admission, and $15 for the early bird admission, with more details to come in the near future. These prices are the same as last year. The show will have many of the same vintage and Japanese import dealers you saw at TransformersCon this past spring to bring you guys a huge selection of 80s and modern Transformers toys.

Also, for the Star Wars fans amongst us the 501st Garrison (http://www.501st.ca/) has confirmed their attendance, so you can get pictures with Darth Vader and company at no additional charge at the show. Hope to see you all there!

Usually crowded and sold out of the good stuff about a couple hours after it starts. So the early bird is worth it if you want something you know everyone else wants. Prices are fair to high. But always willing to deal. So probably lower to about the same as ebay. The difference being you can check out the items before you buy. Which is always a selling point for me.

Which remains me. 2 MONTHS TO GO !!!

Unfortunately timing on trying to get mp05 is not good right now. Really need to wait until the 2nd production run comes out. Right now no one would have them except for 2nd/3rd market, which will cost you, yeah, probably over $200, if you even see one.

I dunno, maybe slideshows or presentations by toy companies, or related media material to certain lines (for example, a preview of TF:Animated)...

I dunno, maybe slideshows or presentations by toy companies, or related media material to certain lines (for example, a preview of TF:Animated)...

...that sort of thing.

Good ideas, but everything needs to start small and then build up. As the show grows, more events can be added. And you can always try to contribute your own efforts into making the show better. That's how it happens. Toy companies won't come to a show until they see there's a large audience at that show, and the large audience sometimes doesn't come to the show until the events entice them, so it's a catch-22.

Nerroth
09-11-2007, 11:54 PM
Is this only a new event, then?

I only moved to Toronto this year, so I didn't know how long this had been running for...

Hmm, I wonder - are there fans of perhaps less well-known (but still popular in fan circles) brands who have people capable of answering questions about current and upcoming figs - such as Kaiyodo's Revoltech line, for example?

(I personally stick with the Fate/Stay Nigh Revoltechs - I can't wait for the Rin Tohsaka-sama model! But, there may be others on hand who might be better placed to offer advice to those unfamiliar with Revoltechs...)

Is this only a new event, then?

I only moved to Toronto this year, so I didn't know how long this had been running for...

It's in it's 4th year, first in Mississauga, before it was in Burlington. This year is shaping up to be the biggest yet, and as Shan said it takes time to build these con's up. The best thing anyone can do is come and support the show.

Hi everyone. I hope to see you all on September 30th for the 4th Annual Action Figure Expo. I know there's already a discussion going on about it, but for your convenience, I thought I would explain how to get to the show by public transit.

-----

It's quite simple. You can take a Mississauga transit bus from Square One's bus terminal: route 19N (north) or the 19A. This bus goes down Hurontario St. You would get off at Brunel Road, where you would see a large plaza and the Mississauga Grand Banquet & Convention Centre.

-----

If you are coming from Brampton, you can still take the Mississauga Transit's route 19S (south) from Shopper's World and get off at Brunel road.

-----

If you are coming from elsewhere in the GTA:

If you take the subway (TTC) to Islington station, there are Mississauga Transit buses that will take you to the Square One terminal. Please see the trip planner in the link below.

You can plan your trip and determine departure/arrival times by visiting www.mississaugatransit.com (http://www.mississaugatransit.com/) (see their Click n' Ride Online Trip Planner).

If you have other questions you can ask me.

Hey Jess I'll be riding single too. I can be your stand in BF/ BODYGAURD , but you have to dress like whitney did in the movie.

I'll be there and dragging my Bro and Sis too. I inadvertantly turned one nephew into a Superhero geek and the other into a Tranformers Geek. The kids have been talking about the convention all summer so myolder siblings are forced to take them.

What am I looking for?

I have MP SKYWARP on hold for me.
They say the G1 reissues of Ratchet and Iron Hide may be out so if they are they are on my list.
I just bought a lot of g1 figures so I hope repo lables is there so I can get new stickers.
Anything else out there. I'm looking for loose complete g1 stuff to fluff up that part of my collection but at the same time I am not paying AFA inspired crack dream prices.

I'm looking forward to it all but I am limiting myself to only $300 because I am on a g1 kick now that i really need to control. Most of the $300 is already on the MP and the fact that as Uncle of the century I will have to buy my nephews something.

Yeah I've been wondering if the 1/2 hour earlybird is going to be worth it too. I'm not really sure how much (vintage) transformers stuff to expect to be there and I know the guy with the huge collection (russ?) won't have any doorcrashing deals $ wise. I'm not after MP06, the encores, or anything else new that might be sold out very quickly (thinks of mp05 at tfcon). I also wonder if dealers will have their prices jacked up/won't make deals in the first 1/2 hour because they know everyone there early will be eager shoppers.

A half hour will also pass by very quick, getting one or two deals in would be lucky.

I'll more likely than not be showing up early, after vintage tfs, but not sure yet.

Also, anyone know if the sellers have a chance to buy off each other before this 9am earlybird?

I plan on getting there around 10. What they got they got. I have shit on hold for me by kool toys so Im not worried about losing MP06.

I'm hoping to get me some good G1 stuff at a reasonable price. There is one guy there that sells right out of the guide book and then I think he triples it. I actually heard him complain how crap he does at cons. Well then nothing on your table is worth a hundren bucks and nothing on your table is cheaper than 100 bucks what do you expect.

Vent over, Im excited for tomorrow. I hope you all have a good time, I know i will.

Son is wearing his 25th anniversary Transformer T-shirt which is huge on him but that's the size that came with the movie dvd. I'll be wearing my Star Wars episode 1 with a big picture of Darth Maul. I like going to a place where my children and I don't get stared at for wearing "weird" t-shirts. :) Both kids will be delighted to meet Darth Vader too.

It was awesome this year! First time going, but I had to leave early for work.

Met up w/ chisau, cannabis prime, and dragon_ap, and had a blast!

Wish that there were some events or photoshoots (other than the 501st Star Wars guys), but it was more or less like flea market event (no insult intended).

I wanted to organize a cybertron.ca photoshoot, but I saw that all the Moderators here were stressed out from managing the entire event, which was really admirable.

I'm looking forward to the next AF Expo or next convention, but I'll definitely need time to save up again, heh.

It was my first time at this expo and I was pleased overall; like dark rage mentioned, the inclusion of events (like guest Q&As and the workshops0 would've been nice. The dealer room did make up for that; it was nice to see such a nice variety of toys all in one roof.
It was great to meet up with some of the board members here (dark_rage, chisau, dragon_ap, SuperMegatron, Crobot and jessikaowl) and put some faces to the names.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next TFCon!

Overall the show was not bad, I thought last year was kinda better though mainly because it was larger. I do agree that there should be other stuff going on other than just the show room buy/sell. It's just another show, Transformerscon is where the main festivities are. The organizers still did a great job as usual and I look forward to the next one...possibly as a seller. :)

I had a great first expo! I would have liked to have met up with a few people though....I was very focused and didn't really look up from the tables. At TFC I will pay more attention and try to enjoy it more.

And none you have pictures up of yourselves anyway to find you!
cannabisprime found me though :D

Next con I am NOT bringing the boyfriend, he just slowed me down and did a bit of "do you neeeeed that?" which is fricking annoying.

WTF was with the $90 each tapes for soundwave?

I'll admit I was looking for cassettes too but after spending as much as I did on headmasters I held off. If you're looking for cassettes Jessika for a TRU Classic SW ages3andup had a 2 KO sets I wanted to grab for around $20 each. One that came with Buzzsaw and Rumble (....Rumble is red :P) and another that came with Ratbat and Frenzy. From what I've read they are pretty close to the orginals with metal parts and chrome weapons. That will also knock your cassette population to 6.

Anyone willing can put a RL pic of themselves in their profile if they don't want to put it as their avatar. Lemme just find a good one and I'll put it on there.

Edit: it was $40 combined and around $20 a set

Overall, a well done show as always!

I had a few stressful moments though...as dealers behind me decided to walk through my area and knock over my display stand, which sent an Overlord and a Trypticon plummetting to the ground...but luckily, I've never juggled TF's before and did a pretty good job as I caught them.

And then to top things off, a buyer decided to look at some of my items and instead of looking at the item from the proper angles, he decided to turn his wrist over to look at the bottom side of the toy, unfortunately, he was also holding a coffee with this hand, thus spilling the coffee onto a MIB Fortress Maximus.

And as a few of you noticed, the vein on my forehand pops out when that happens!

But all in all, a great show and a big thank you to Super_Megatron for helping me out once again!

That sucks you had those mishaps!

My boyfriend was impressed that the vendors wern't freaking out when we picked up stuff/touched it..... he said at cons for other stuff (anime, etc) they would scream "LOOK WITH YOUR EYES NOT YOUR HANDS!!!!" and would hover over you to make sure you didn't wreck anything. lol

That guy who spilled the coffee..... I'm not sure how you didn't slap him. Guess I'll never be a vendor :p

I've seen those and might just get the TRU ones, they seem to go on ebay for about $30 with shipping. I suppose I can hunt for the originals, I'm not in a hurry! But thanks, at least I know I have options!

LOL you gotta be more specific than that.

The Moderators might be able to give you their contacting information of vendors, if the vendors allow it.

I actually wanted to buy some more of the Super Mario plushies, but ran out of time...:(

WHAT!? That's insane, and purely riding on the popularity of the movie (in my opinion anyway). At TFC this year they were +- $50, and because I bought four, I got them for $40 apiece (I got Rewind, Ramhorn, Slugfest and Overkill :D bringing my cassette count to 13). I've also got some of the KO's from Spence a A3U and they're awesome. Obviously not of the same quality, but good nonetheless and they're super-fun little dudes. Can also use the colour variations to beef up the Autobot cassettes. I've got the clear crystal Frenzy and Laserbeak as Autobots. I'm totally going to grab the sets w/ Ratbat and Rumble so then I'll just need
Eject and I'm good. I don't have the combiners or Mythical Japanese Dino-cassettes, but I'm good unless they fall into my lap.

I didn't get to go this year (my best friends got married :D ), but I'm there with bells on next year.

$40 a piece!! That's insane!

When I was selling off my cassettes I was asking $20 each, unless it was Ratbat, which was complete and unbroken.

Damn Sheisters!

I agree. 40$ is too much. Even on Ebay they sell around 20$-25$. The only exceptions are Ratbat and the combiners which sell for a lot more.

Yeah, I know that $40 is alot, but they were there, I was there, it was disposable toy income that I had just made by selling some stuff, and now I have them and all is well. Really though, at $25 on ebay, plus shipping, I didn't overpay too much. So I'm good.

Would still have been way nicer to pay $20 apiece...then I would have bought more!
