Hey guys, here's my newest creation: War Within Grimlock.
(who's now on coincidentally on ebay) (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?&customid=cybertron&toolid=10001&campid=5335815859&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dl l%3FViewItem%26item%3D140271260048%26_trksid%3Dp39 07.m32%26_trkparms%3Dtab%253DSelling)
The head was pretty much completely resculpted, adding a meaner brow, adding the infamous Grimlock ears and adding a mouth plate. I painted the visor with transparent red so it still lights up.
I grabbed some random army toys from toys r us and went to town adding on fun things. The sword comes from a Gundam kit, and the ammo chains come from an army set of weapons also from TRU.
When I painted the 1st one, it looked a bit plain, so I decided to add some rust and battle damage. I imagine Grimlock as being an older brute type of autobot, with lots of rust spots, and scars he would tell stories about. This is one of the few TF customs I've done where I actually like the alt mode better than the robot mode.
The alt mode has some added fun weaponry too. The 2 large guns on the front end were my take on the WW grimlock look. On the guns are rubber holdings which fit tightly onto the pegs on the vehicle. I wanted to arm him up to the maximum. The chain ammo actually feeds into those 2 guns. Then I added some random accessories to the side rears. I also added a water slide autobot decal on the back, which was covered by a accessory, and under them was a add-on spare tire.
The rust was actually made using sand added to my paint, in darker hues. I then used some reference pics and just mimicked the color and look of rust using shades of brown & orange. All paints were enamel.
Big thanks by the way, to Tom Servo (who comes by sometimes) I followed his tutorial (from here) on pyro-fx to get the desired look for the weapons to look like they are firing. He recommended using some transparent paints, but I went and used regular paints, then drybrushed to get multiple hues/colors.
